COMLINKS
|
Comlinks are portable communication devices. Consisting of a receiver,
transmitter, and a power source, they are suitable for short range
communication. They come in three types: Personal, Vehicle, and
Military.
Modifications possible include:-
- Burst-Transmissioncan be a modification to personal
comlinks for double the base cost, making the transmission very
difficult to intercept or detect.
- Miniaturization can be a modification to vehicle and military
comlinks for double the base cost. It makes the device wrist-sized.
- Subcutaneous implant can be a modification to personal comlinks
for five times the base cost. It makes the comlink visually
undetectable and is activated via finger or jaw pressure. Remove to
switch channels.
- Encryption can be a modification to personal and vehicle comlinks
giving the device hardwired encryption routines for ten times the base
cost. It is standard in military comlinks.
- Video can be a modification for personal and vehicle comlinks
giving two-dimensional images in addition to audio for twice the base
cost. It is standard in military comlinks.
- Holoprojection can be a modification to a comlink giving
three-dimensional image capability in addition to audio for five times
the base cost.
Comlinks can broadcast over countless different frequencies. There are
also 'Standard Clear Frequencies' (or SCF's) which are used for any
public communications, such as when a ship wishes to hail a spaceport
or other ship, or when a local government needs to make a broadcast
that should be picked up by all comlinks within a certain area. Most
comlinks can be set to monitor one specific frequency and SCF's
simultaneously, and more advanced comlinks and military comlinks can be
set to monitor several frequencies.
Comlink (personal):
Hand-held cylinder or wrist-sized device.
Range: 50km or up to low orbit in clear weather.
Weight: 0.1kg.
Availability: Readily available throughout the known galaxy. All eras.
Cost: 25-200
Modifications Possible: Can be built into helmets and armour. Encryption, Video, Holoprojection.
Comlink (vehicle):
Medpack-sized device. Used for short-range
communication such as when entering docking procedures on starships.
For longer range communication vehicles tend to use subspace radios.
Range: 200km and high orbit in clear weather.
Weight: 1kg.
Availability: Readily available throughout the known galaxy. All eras.
Cost: 250-300
Modifications Possible: Can be built into vehicle systems. Miniaturized, Encryption, Video, Holoprojection.
Comlink (military):
Backpack-sized device.
Range: 500km and high orbit.
Weight: 3kg.
Availability: Normally only available in large cities and space ports
or on the planet of origin. Restricted on most planets, and normally
may not be bought or sold without appropriate Imperial, New republic,
or other relevant license. All eras.
Cost: 100-500
Modifications Possible: Encryption, Video included. Holoprojection.
