This comlink was designed and produced by the Bothawui
Communications Conglomerate. It is the military or vehicle comlink
varient of their smaller personal comlink, the MultiNode Communications Link.
As a backpack comlink it could handle up to twenty different signals at
one time. The transmission wavelength was narrowband to restrict
detection by others. It has video capability, giving two-dimensional
images in addition to audio, as standard.
Range: 50km, and high orbit even in harsh weather. Wired into a vehicle boosts the range to 500km.
Base Cost: 300.
Weight: 2kg.
Availability: Normally available only in large cities and space ports, or on Bothawui. All eras.
Modifications include:-
Burst-Transmission can be a modification to personal comlinks for
double the base cost, making the transmission very difficult to
intercept or detect.
Encryption can be a modification
giving the device hardwired encryption routines for ten times the base
cost.
Holoprojection can be a modification giving
three-dimensional image capability in addition to audio for five times
the base cost.
Comlink
This comlink can broadcast over countless different frequencies. There are
also 'Standard Clear Frequencies' (or SCF's) which are used for any
public communications, such as when a ship wishes to hail a spaceport
or other ship, or when a local government needs to make a broadcast
that should be picked up by all comlinks within a certain area. Most
comlinks can be set to monitor one specific frequency and SCF's
simultaneously.
