The Traxes BioElectronics Implant Communicator is a cybernetic
implant comlink. Orginally designed for handsfree, noisless
communication to aid mining crews and space-dock repair techs, but they
have been adopted by criminal and espionage uses. Internal
comlinks are among the most popular and practical cybernetic
implants. A series of subdermal transceivers allow silent and
unobservable comlink
transmissions, making these tools useful for any activity, both legal
and illicit. The transceivers are surgically implanted along the skull
and near the vocal ghords. The user
subvocalizes messages by subtly duplicating jaw, tongue, and vocal
chord speech movements. This technique produces virtually no sound and
minimal visible movement so observers are unlikely to notice the
subvocalization process.
The communicator translates these movements into electrical impulses
which are converted by short-range transponders into a standard comlink
transmission. This signal can be received by or from any comlink within
three
kilometers that is set to the correct broadcast frequency. This comlink
allows the user to circumvent audio
surveillance systems, or 'sound snoopers', such as those that were used
to spy on local citizens during Imperial occupationsand making it
detectable only with medical
scanners. However, the
comlink transmissions are susceptible to interception by military-grade
communication scanners if they know the frequency. This comlink may
also be jammed, either through ion attacks, or from espionage
comm-jamming devices, and causes the user excruciating pain while the
jamming occurs.
