There are many times when terrain prevents easy travel. Sometimes heights are too great or difficult to ascend or descend. There are times and places where normal passage may cause harm, such as across lava, weak bridges and so on. The ability to float, seemingly lighter than air is the purpose of this Manc. It causes the target or user to instantly float gently off the ground three  inches. The user can then control the movement of themselves or their target as wished. Changing the elevation, direction, speed, or height all as wished, the user merely concentrates for a moment and it happens.

The user can, if wished give control over to the target victim if sentient, but they do not have the same versatility as the user themselves. Vertical movement alone is very easy and requires little thought to achieve. The levitator may choose to practically walk on the ground, but seem to have a bouncy gait as they do so, like to walking along a tight rope. Horizontal movement is more difficult and requires some concentration and effort. For those unaccustomed to Levitate in the form of a slight swimming or pulling action to move oneself forward, whilst experienced levitators can float gracefully forward as wished. Turning flat to the horizontal alignment also takes a little practice.

The height that may be achieved is unrestricted except for two parameters. Firstly the user may not raise above an altitude that would effect them in some hazardous way. Thin air or excessive cold will cause them to fall unconscious and then their levitate holds them there, so instinct normally prevents this from happening and the user would have to use every ounce of their willpower and endurance to reach above this safe distance and not suffer its effects. Should the user do so, their lives could be endangered. The second parameter is line of clear sight. The target must be within this range for the user to control their movement or else the target becomes loose, and will float randomly, usually downwards, slowly, partly determined by the environment and air speed and such.

The weight of a target levitated is equal to that which the caster or user can themselves manage with their own strength and endurance. Weights over this require great concentration and mental strength but is effectively unlimited. Targets must be free to move and within the weight the caster or user can handle. Targets fixed to the ground or to another object or person are harder to levitate needing tearing away or lifting with the added penalty of the joint object.

The speed at which a user can levitate forward is around 3mph. This can be increased at casting with an added Power Level. Each extra Power Level (cumulative) adding an extra 1mph to the speed. (i.e. 3mph becomes 4mph then 5mph). The fastest available speed in this manner is equal to the Level of the caster +3. (So Level 1 casters can increase the speed to 4mph with one extra Power Level, whilst a Level 7 caster could increase it seven Power Levels times to 10mph. A Level 15 caster could therefore cast a Levitate spell and achieve 18mph but this would take an extra 14 Power Levels.) Swift or Quicken can also increase the speed of Levitate if cast after the Levitate Manc as appropriate.

Free Movement or Banish Manc dispels the effect of Levitate upon the user or target. Should a user controlling a levitated target fall unconscious or die, the target is still affected by the Manc and will remain in situ until the Duration ends where they will gently fall to the floor for 1 Round and then fall normally. It is advised that levitators ensure they are near the ground towards the end of the Duration.
