Language is powerful. Old Tongue and Ancient Tongue are two powerful languages that can control Manc and the elements when used in the correct fashion. Without the construct that is language however, that power can be chaotic, destructive beyond imagination, and consuming. Many races have learned to evolve into better societies because of their language and their texts, spreading learning, skills, knowledge, across the lands that others may learn and use such knowledge. Of course, this also means that separate and individual races have developed their own unique languages. Even among the same race, distance and isolation creates new words and phrases that are common only to that society or settlement. So language grows, diversifies, and refines or vitiates. This can make understanding the myriad of languages difficult.
This Manc gives the user the ability to understand every language that they read, even if they before could not read any language. Regardless of its style, font, form, or function, the user can understand, follow, and translate the laguage they are reading into their native language or another if known to at least native level. Only a few languages have scripts, words, or phrases that can not be translated, but the user of this Manc can decipher the meaning as best as they can.
To the user the language does not change, but their understanding does. Like a word that was originally foriegn becoming common usage in a different language, that word is instantly recognised by the reader. Once the Duration has ended however, the language once again becomes indecipherable and just a series of signs, letters, or pictographs to the reader. Although theymay well remember what was written, they can not now read the language and memory fades quickly in many.
This Manc allows the user to read a scroll (or similar item of Manc) of Old Tongue, or any language that harnesses Manc in any form. If reading alone is enough to activate the scroll then that will occur. However, if the scroll must be read aloud, then Language Speaking is also needed to correctly pronounce the language in its native form, thus activating the scroll, or the scroll will remain inert.
The user must have clear sight of the language being read, this Manc does not bestow nightvision, or the ability to see through illusions or such.
If casting upon a victim, the caster may choose which languages the
victim may read should they wish to restrict them. By adding 4 Power
Levels at creation or spontaneous casting the Duration may be doubled.
