LAWNER CHARACTER TYPES:

KNIGHT

Knights are people who do a great service, justice, or honour for their kingdom and are given an honourary rank, becoming a Peer of nobility. Alternatively, a Page can be commissioned to a knight, and their order if they have one, and be trained to fulfil a position of nobility. Unless Evil, all knights are very good and lawful as well as chivalrou. having high standards of respect for everybody who is lawful, good, and respectful to others.

A knighthood is bestowed in various ways. Their are many stages in the growth of knighthood and many forms of knight. A king or lord can grant a knighthood if one of their peers is loyal to a great extent. These knights are then trained in the manner of knighthood.Or, they can be made a Knight Batchelor, to reward some great deed or achievement.

Pages are usually taken as youths, not younger than ten Dodecates, not older than fifteen. They become kngihts in time, after schooling and training with wooden weapons, law, the arts of writing, war and ettiquete, but the page is never allowed near danger or to fight.

When the page reaches an orderly age, or about eighteen, they may become a Squire to the knight who teaches them, or another who works for their liege. This rank may entail fighting, if necessary, to protect the knight, armour, and horses, all of which are under the squire's care. The aquire must pay for their own horse and armour, as well as any weapons the knight allows them to use. Should poverty claim the squire, then they will never make knight themselves unless they can commit some great deed on the battlefield. Squires also aid the knights in duels and tournaments. A page or squire can be dismissed at any time by the kngith due to laziness, dishonour, or incompetence.

The Knighting comes after the squire has acquired the correct experience or performed some goodly deed. They usually kneel before the king or Field Commander and are struck three times with the flat of a sword on the shoulders; this however does alter somewhat depending upon the kingdom and customs. If bestowed by a king or lord, a ceremony usually is held. The squire again kneels with their head bowed if an honour, or held high if a great deed is being rewarded. They are then given robes, arms, spurs, a Pennon-Banner with their arms displayed, and other items appropriate. they are then touched three times with the lord's sword.

Knights can also be ordained into a religious order, following the ways and tenets of the cloth. These knights are often called palladins. The squire is trained in the religion, then knighted with holy water, holy devotions, and insignia, and then agin struck with a holy weaponor symbol, again this ritual differs greatly with each religion. Some religion's palladin equivelants are trained and raised in completely different and unique ways.

An honour bestowed upon a person who has performed some deed of valour on the field of battle before their king or lord who is not a knight can be made a Knight Batchelor.

A Knight Banneret is an honour upon personal distinction of a knight, or a request of promotion by the knight themselves to the commander of the army, and if it is judged worthy of preferment, then the herald is called to cut the tails from the Pennon-Banner.

Common deities worshipped by knights include: Meter, Enos, Tamour-Brun, Tep.

Lesser-worshipped deities include: Dythos, Elthanharna.
