P.S.
Physical Strength (P.S.): represents the character's raw
physical power.
P.S. 3-16 Carry Weight = P.S. x10 in pounds.
P.S. 17+ CarryWeight = P.S. x20 in pounds.
Lift Weight = Carry Weight x2 in pounds.
Throw Heavy or awkward object weight = Not more weight than they can carry.
High P.S. (16+) gain a bonus to damage an opponent in hand-to-hand
combat. It is applied to punch and kick, as well as hand-held weapons
(such as club, knife, or sword). It does not apply to bows or guns etc.:-
Hand-to-Hand Combat Damage Bonus
- 16 = +1
- 17 = +2
- 18 = +3
- 19 = +4
- 20 = +5
- 21 = +6
- 22 = +7
- 23 = +8
- 24 = +9
- 25 = +10
- 26 = +11
- 27 = +12
- 28 = +13
- 29 = +14
- 30 = +15
- 31+:
- For each digit past 30 = +1 Hit Point/S.D.C. damage (31 = +16, 32 = +17, 40 = +25, etc.)
- For
each five points past 30 (round down) = range of throwing rock, ball,
or weapon, or shoot an arrow an extra 30 feet (9.1m) without accuracy
loss.
- For every 5 points past 30 (round down) = lift or carry 30% more than usual
P.S. of 5, 6, or 7 means the character is weak and have the following
modifiers:-
- No damage bonuses from hand to hand Combat skill, O.C.C., or the
weapon itself.
- Throwing range is reduced by 25%.
P.S. of 3 or 4 means the character is very weak and have the following
modifiers:-
- Physical damage is reduced by half (punches, kicks, and melee
weapons).
- Throwing range is reduced by 50%.
P.S. of 1 or 2 means the character is physically feeble and have the
following modifiers:-
- Only inflicts 1 point of damage from punches.
- Only inflicts 1D4 damage from kicks.
- Melee wepaons inflict only half normal damage.
- No damage bonuses apply.
- Throwing range is reduced by 75%.
Augmented Strength
Characters who possess an enhanced P.S. (such as Crazies, Cyborgs,
Headhunters with bionic arms and hands, Juicers, and pilots of light
power armour like the Triax Hopper or Flying Titan, as well as certain
D-Bees) may have augmented strength and can inflict Mega-Damage blows,
but only with a Power Punch.
A Power Punch always counts as 2 melee attacks, regardless if it hits
or misses. The attack must be declared as a Power Punch or Power Kick
before rolling To Strike. A Power Bite, Head Butt, Elbow, or Knee
strike can not be used as a power attack by augmented characters, unless
the description (usually O.C.C. or R.C.C.) says otherwise.
Unless specific details are given, use the list below:-
- Augmented P.S. 24 = 1 M.D. with Power Punch or Power Kick; counts as 2 melee attacks.
- Augmented P.S. 25-27 = 1D4 M.D. with Power Punch or Power Kick; counts as 2 melee attacks.
- Augmented P.S. 28-30 = 1D6 M.D. with Power Punch or Power Kick; counts as 2 melee attacks.
- Augmented P.S. 31-40 = 2D4 M.D. with Power Punch or Power Kick; counts as 2 melee attacks.
- Augmented P.S. 41-50 (unlikely) = 3D6 S.D.C. + P.S. bonus with
Restrained Punch and 1D4 M.D. with Full Punch, or 3D4 M.D. with Power
Punch or Power Kick.
- Augmented P.S. 51+ (unlikely) = 4D6 S.D.C. + P.S. bonus with Restrained
Punch and 1D8 M.D. with Full Punch, or 4D4 M.D. with Power Punch or
Power Kick.
Note: the S.D.C. damage is considerable for Augmented P.S. and
applies to all full strength punches against S.D.C./Hit Point based
opponents like humans and most D-Bees when not protected by M.D.C.
armour.
Robot Strength
M.D.C. robot drones (like Skelebots), robot vehicles, and giant robot
war machines (walking tanks) as well as heavy power armour (with 230 or
more M.D.C. such as the Samson, SAMAS, Glitterboy, etc.) can deliver
Mega-Damage attacks from their punches and kicks. Low robot P.S. may
only be able to deliver an M.D.attack with a Power Punch attack.
Borgs are not as powerfulas most 'bots'. Robot strength will be
indicated in the description stats of the robot. Most man-sized units
range from 18-28 P.S., giant robots may have 28-55 or higher P.S..
Unless specific details are given, use the list below:-
- Robot P.S. 15 or less = 1 D6 S.D.C. with Restrained Punch. 2D6 S.D.C. with Full Punch, or 4D6 S.D.C. with Power Punch
(counts as 2 melee attacks). P.S. bonuses apply to S.D.C. attacks.
Kicks do 2D6 S.D.C., Leap Kicks do 3D6 S.D.C.. No M.D. attacks are
possible.
- Robot P.S. 16-20 = 2D6 S.D.C. with Restrained Punch, 1 M.D. with
Full Punch, 1D6 M.D. with Power Punch (counts as 2 melee attacks). P.S.
bonuses apply to S.D.C. attacks. Kicks do 1D4 M.D., Leap Kicks do 2D4
M.D..
- Robot P.S. 21-25 = 6D6 S.D.C. with Restrained Punch, 1D4 M.D. with Full
Punch, 2D4 M.D. with Power Punch (counts as 2 melee attacks). P.S.
bonuses apply to S.D.C. attacks. Kicks and Leap Kicks do 2D4
M.D. (counts as 2 melee attacks).
- Robot P.S. 26-30 = 1D4 M.D. with Restrained Punch, 1D6 M.D. with Full
Punch, 2D6 M.D. with Power Punch (counts as 2 melee attacks). P.S.
bonuses do not apply to M.D. attacks. Kicks do 2D4 M.D. and Leap Kicks do 2D8
M.D. (counts as 2 melee attacks).
- Robot P.S. 31-35 = 1D4 M.D. with Restrained Punch, 2D4 M.D. with Full
Punch, 4D4 M.D. with Power Punch (counts as 2 melee attacks). P.S.
bonuses do not apply to M.D. attacks. Kicks do 2D8 M.D. and Leap Kicks do 4D8
M.D. (counts as 2 melee attacks).
- Robot P.S. 36-40 = 1D4 M.D. with Restrained Punch, 2D6 M.D. with Full
Punch, 4D6 M.D. with Power Punch (counts as 2 melee attacks). P.S.
bonuses do not apply to M.D. attacks. Kicks do 3D8 M.D. and Leap Kicks do 5D8
M.D. (counts as 2 melee attacks).
- Robot P.S. 41-50 = 1D6 M.D. with Restrained Punch, 3D6 M.D. with Full
Punch, 4D6 M.D. with Power Punch (counts as 2 melee attacks). P.S.
bonuses do not apply to M.D. attacks. Kicks do 5D8 M.D. and Leap Kicks do 1D8x10
M.D. (counts as 2 melee attacks).
- Robot P.S. 51-60 = 2D6 M.D. with Restrained Punch, 6D6 M.D. with Full
Punch, 2D6x10 M.D. with Power Punch (counts as 2 melee attacks). P.S.
bonuses do not apply to M.D. attacks. Kicks do 6D8 M.D. and Leap Kicks do 2D6x10
M.D. (counts as 2 melee attacks).
Notes:-
- All robots vary considerably. The list of Robot strength damage
is applied if no specific damage is listed in the robot's description
or for conversion of other sources to Rifts.
- Combat moves: Body Block and tackles typically inflict half the M.D.damage of a normal Punch. Stomp attacks are only applicable to 18 feet (5.5m) tall robots or taller and typically inflict 1D4 or 1D6 M.D., seldom more. Tear or Pry attacks are only possible if the mechanism is designed for that purpose, usually delivering half Full Punch damage.
- Power armour is generally smaller and lighter than a true, 100%
robot. Often little more than an armoured exoskeleton. As a result,
power suits seldom exceed P.S. 40.
