As warriors and other classes use melee weapons in combat it may be found that the character discovers an ability with a specific weapon type that they use often that gives them an edge when using that weapon. Weapon bonuses only apply to specific weapon types, not weapon categories. I.e. a Weapon Bonus to a Standard sword would apply to using a Standard sword, but not to using any other sword, even with the Sword proficiency on its own.
All characters with a weapon proficiency gain experience equal to the opponent's ABV when they defeat that opponent. When the score reaches specific points then they have a chance to gain a weapon bonus for that weapon:
Weapon XP = (Current Weapon Bonus x 10*) x character level * (Note: if no current Weapon Bonus assume it is equal to 1) |
Once they have reached this amount of XP for a weapon, they may then choose to roll for the chance of a Weapon Bonus for that weapon. The chance of succeeding in gaining a Weapon Bonus is dependent upon the character's level. I.e. a level 1 character always has a 10% (level 1 x 10 = 10%) chance of gaining the bonus, a level 4 character has a 40% (4 x 10 = 40%) chance of gaining the bonus.
The chance to gain the Weapon Bonus = character level x 10 |
Each character class has different level ceilings for the Weapon bonus chance. I.e. Warriors can keep gaining a Weapon Bonus up to the fighter class maximum level of 6, while a wizard can gain a Weapon Bonus up to level 5 but no further, despite the fact that the maximum wizard level is 15.
