Maxwell Dillon was a high-wire lineman for New York's major electrical power company. While holding power lines that were still connected to their spool, Dillon was struck by lightning. The unusually configured magnetic field that was generated by the wound spool of one-inch cable and the live, high-tension wires caused a body-wide mutagenic change in his nervous system. This change transformed him into a living electrical capacitor, powered by the microfine rhythmic muscle contractions that normally regulate body temperature. Donning a colourful disguise and calling himself Electro, Dillon decided to use his power for personal gain.
Electro has fought alongside many other villains and has been a team-member of many super villain teams. Among his teams and fellow villains are: The Sinister Six, comprising of Doctor Octopus, Sandman, Mysterio, Vulture and Kraven The Hunter; The Emissaries Of Evil comprising Leapfrog, Matador, Gladiator and Stilt-Man; The Frightful Four comprising of Wizard, Sandman and Trapster; and alongside Blizzard and the Purple Man. Electro is a good team member, upholding his responsibilities and a trustworthy partner. His failure when in teams has led him to dislike them somewhat however and he tends to stick to robbery or extortion, working alone. He has good underworld connections.
Dillon has served several prison sentences, usually in a specially constructed, non-conductive cell. He has also been examined by Project Pegasus.
Electro has been defeated many times, and has had run-ins with many superheroes and superhero teams. These include: Spider-Man, Daredevil, Captain America, Falcon and The Fantastic Four.
