61. PILOT AIRCRAFT

The ability to pilot flying craft which operate in an atmosphere. A Specific must be taken as default, this basic skill has no Rating itself. It includes standard procedures, basic maintenance and emergency procedures associated with the type of craft. At low-levels, this skill gives only fundamental skill ability, probably showing limited flying time. Pilot may fly along known, pre-arranged flight paths and must keep within normal civil boundaries. At higher-levels, more adventurous flying may be performed, such as low-level flight, night flying, high altitude, large aircraft, small passenger/cargo aircraft, and even basic stunts. Very high Rating gives a complete mastery and can be applied to civil airline pilots and even combat pilots although Specifics and Specific Specialities must be taken.

See Manoeuvres also.

1-10 Still learning. Insufficient flying hours gained. May take off, land and fly Rating x 100 kilometres in distance. Must have contact with instructor and/or control tower. Manoeuverability is -1 lower than Optimum, -2 higher than Optimum
11-20 Basic training completed, can fly 80% of the Range of the aircraft.
21-40 Competent training, can fly any aircraft except civil transport. Can fly 90% of the Range.
41-55 Minimum for Civil passenger pilots. Can fly 95% of the Range of the aircraft.
56-60 Minimum for combat pilots and rescue aircraft pilots. At 58% gain +1 Manoeuver at Optimum speeds.
61-70 Advanced combat pilot can fly up to 100% Range. Gains +2 Manoeuvers at Optimum speed, + 1 at Unhurried and Fast speeds.
71-85 Top gun class. Gain +2 Manoeuvers at Optimum, Unhurried and Fast speeds. Gain -4 off Skill roll.
86-95 You are Von Richthoffen in a jet! Gain +2 Manoeuvers at Optimum, Unhurried and Fast speeds. Gain 10% of Rating off skill roll.
96+ Fly? You're a bloody Dragonfly with jets. Gain +2 Manoeuvers at Optimum, Unhurried and Fast speeds. Gain 25% of Rating off skill roll.

Tech-level modifies the above greatly. Ratings of up to 15 must be in a Specific Speciality, after which the character may divide their XP as wished between other Specialities or Specifics, but they cannot have any Rating below 15 in any one aircraft or type. Once Rating in a Specific reaches 71 the character may take a new Specific Speciality at Rating 50 (without division) as long as they have had experience with that aircraft.
